Usually the food is good, and recommended, for 6 months. The vitamins in the food are stabilized to keep them at their full potency. The food I buy has a use by/expiration date on it. Personally, I think it’s a crock. . . but I’m not a pellet manufacturer, and my piggy is the one critter I can’t make food for. You could freeze the food if you want it to last longer. But I still think that would effect the vitamins, stabilized or not, as well as maybe the food. You might want to check and see if you can freeze the food safely. I buy a 10 lb. bag online of my piggy’s favorite food. I know it takes us a bit longer than 6 months to go thru it sometimes and we haven’t had a problem yet, but my piggy gets fresh foods at least twice a day as well, besides good timothy hay.
