My mother had immense patience and nerves of steel, allowing me to keep cages, aquariums and terrariums, some containing snakes, in my room and in the basement, and larger galvanized wash tubs in the yard with screen covers to keep the frogs and... When other kids were in the house watching TV or outside playing Little League, I'd be out in the woods, fields and waters, searching for and collecting all kinds of critters, including but not limited to snakes, frogs, toads, salamanders,... Gerbilariums suck in my opinion. the bars can potentially hurt their feet. for babys i usually prefer a duna ( a plastic cage which they cant chew on because there arent any openings ) because that way i can take them with my from my room the living room easier. but i also keep breeding pairs in aquariums. its a little bit about personal preference i suppose =].
