How to: For the fish fans

Different types of fish need different types of tanks, temperatures of water, food, and even other types of fish in order to survive. First, make sure you read up on the type of fish that you want to get so that you can get all the necessary items for that particular fish. Many college students had a pet growing up but the second you live in a dorm and most apartments, anything that can't live in some type of aquarium is usually not allowed. As an extra push to not get any unwanted bacteria in your tank, don't use your hands to take anything out of the tank. When you figure out the right size tank to put your new fish friend in, make sure it is clean.

What would be a perfect arrangment of fishes for a beginners ...

I would say start off with goupies, they are cheap, incase they die, and they are great fish. But be sure to get either male or female, unless you want to breed them, becuase the reproduce rapidly! I have had two sets of babies in one week, which is about 20 fish. But yeah, I would go with goupies, they really are great adn come in great colors, and live a fairly long life.

Unless you already maintained and know how to keep a saltwater tank. Saltwater Tanks are not for beginners who have no clue how to even start one. It takes more work and effort and alot of reading up on, unlike freshwater when you just stick everything together. Saltwater tanks is more of a science.

Darryl is right in the fact that marine aquariums are more work However they are not out of the ability of anyone who can afford to do a little research. That is the key. I have had marine aquariums for about 5 years. The important thing is knowledge. there are some super books and website not to mention forums and pod casts. http://www.talkingreef.com/ has a pod cast that covers almost every question imaginable by a notice marine aquarist. One of the most common mistakes is not understanding that a tank takes time to mature. A saltwater tank will go through many phases before reaching a stable point. It takes at least 6 months to mature. I see the same people buying fish every week cause they don’t research and half of what they purchase don’t last over a month. In my 5 years I have lost 3 fish and I know exactly why each of the died. Good luck and take it slow. “Nothing good happens fast in a marine aquarium”
