One purpose of Guiding Eyes is to open up the eyes of people and the public about what guide dogs do. Overcash said she's privileged to take her puppies to places where most dogs cannot go. Once they are old enough, each puppy receives a jacket... She elaborates by describing that most of what guide dogs do is waiting to be needed, and getting the dogs beyond distractions - especially other dogs - plays a big part in their readiness for the Guiding Eyes school. About one in four dogs raised for Guiding Eyes actually graduates from their program and becomes a successful guide dog. "A guide dog is a dog that has a gift or a talent," said Danny Overcash. Guiding Eyes for the Blind, a nationwide nonprofit program based in Yorktown Heights, N. Y. , breeds, raises and trains puppies to be guide dogs for blind and vision-impaired people. "All dogs have some level of confidence, and a guide dog needs a lot of confidence," she said. My dog is a pretty good chewer and this toy has been very durable. I typically don’t buy him anything that is “plush” because he makes it his mission to remove all of the stuffing from the toy. He has chewed off the head and made a hole in the shell but the toy is still intact and he still enjoys playing with it. I am a big fan of the Kyjen brand.
I received this product yesterday. I love the look and feel of it, and from the moment I took it out of the box my dog was fixated on it. The shell is made out of what seems to be a very durable nylon material, however the feet, tail and head are made out of the softer furry material more commonly found on dog toys. Within 30 minutes of him playing with it exactly as instructed in the directions, my little 13 lb Cockapoo was able to rip apart 3 of the feet and the tail, to the point where I had to stuff them all back into the body so he would not be able to get to them. Most importantly, and the reason for my review, was that he was able to get the squeaker out of one of the feet. I looked up to see him chewing on it, and is something he could have very easily choked on had we not been monitoring him.
