Hummingbird feeders will almost unfailingly bring them to a garden, but growing the native plants they depend on will make your garden an even more attractive hummingbird haven in the summer and during their annual migrations. Ruby-throats are usually the only hummingbird eastern gardeners know, but in western gardens a dozen species of hummingbirds can be seen. He usually hangs up a hummingbird feeder in his garden in the Kansas City area in early spring, and he grows lots of native plants to attract hummingbirds all season long. Kress suggests planting a hummingbird garden where you can see it from a window inside the house, or in a sunny spot right in the middle of the garden, so you can see it from all sides. s Grow Native program includes rose verbena, a sprawling, bright pink ground-cover bloom that blooms from summer through fall, and blue sage, a drought-tolerant prairie plant that blooms in late summer.
Is it safe to use Bird Bath Spray on a baby bird? Written by rss41 on April 11th, 2010
i have Feather Glo Bird Bath Spray and i was wondering if it safe to use it on my baby bird that is 2 almost 3 weeks old. It’s feathers are coming in and i want to help keep them clean and healthy. can i use the spray, should i use water instead? what would you recommend? Thanks
Neither! The baby is too young to be bathed. Wipe any extra dirty areas with a warm damp cloth if necessary and make sure you keep it warm in the brooder afterwards. As for keeping it’s feathers clean, give up now. Baby birds can be very messy. Any ratty feathers will molt during it’s jeuvenile molt to reveal a beautifully feathered bird.
